CLASS TITLE: PRINCIPAL - HIGH SCHOOL
BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Associate Superintendent, Secondary Education and the Director-Secondary Education, plan, organize, control and direct the instructional programs, operations, plant and personnel for a comprehensive high school (9-12); assure safe and positive learning environment for the students and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Plan, organize, control and direct and evaluate instructional activities, extracurricular events, special programs and plant operations at a District comprehensive high school.
Confer with District Office personnel regarding staff, programs, students, finances and legal requirements.
Implement, modify, and evaluate the school's mission, vision, goals, objectives and programs as needed.
Interview, select, direct and evaluate certificated and classified personnel.
Assign faculty including Vice Principals, Counselors and other staff as appropriate.
Conduct classroom visitations and observations; recommend discipline, reassignment, or termination as needed.
Enforce State and District codes, policies and laws.
Administer school site discipline and safety programs.
Develop and administer site budgets.
Assure allocation of funds for instructional and non-instructional equipment and materials.
Analyze data and implement plans for instructional improvement.
Evaluate and revise curricular and instructional programs with District staff.
Communicate with teachers to meet student and District needs.
Maintain communication with community groups, parents, and law enforcement.
Prepare correspondence and public communications for school events and achievements.
Conduct articulation with feeder schools and develop orientation programs.
Supervise students on campus and during lunch and breaks.
Discipline students according to guidelines.
Assure student health, safety and welfare.
Oversee attendance, counseling, and other support services.
Provide access to academic, social and career counseling.
Coordinate school plant maintenance and inventory.
Implement staff development and in-service training.
Provide leadership for student activities and athletics programs.
Conduct meetings with faculty, parents, and community reps.
Attend IEPs and resolve student/parent/staff complaints.
Represent school at Board, District, and community functions.
Participate in PQR and WASC activities.
Develop and implement class schedules.
Prepare and maintain required records and reports.
Maintain comprehensive files and student/staff records.
Operate a computer and office equipment.
Drive a vehicle to conduct work.
Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Any combination equivalent to a master’s degree in education or related field.
Five years of classroom experience, including at least three years in a secondary administrative role.
