Qualifications
New York State Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL)
Experience:
3-5 years experience as a New York State Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) or School Building Leader (SBL)
Supervises:
The Principal shall be responsible to the Superintendent of Schools for the instruction, management, and personnel administration of a middle school building. The Principal may delegate responsibility for the operation of the school building to shared assistant principal, and all other faculty but the Principal will be responsible for its operation.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Program and Curriculum Development
Establishes, guides, and supports building-wide committees formed to address the improvement of instruction in the building/program.
Coordinates placement of all 5-8 students.
Chairs the Building Committee
Coordinates building Support Team meetings
Works collaboratively with the Assistant Superintendent for Special Services
Works with and directs the instructional (teaching and administrative) staff in the development of a system-wide process of evaluating instructional programs.
Oversees the implementation of new curricula and materials.
Coordinates planning, testing, and monitoring student achievement.
Implements special programs to enhance the curriculum.
Instructional Leadership
Ensures that Board of Education policies, regulations and State mandates are implemented and adhered to.
Oversees safety and security drills, including day to day student related mediation and/or student disciplinary matters.
Assesses and evaluates administrative needs in terms of student population, student needs, and special programs.
Recommends staff development that would benefit the building.
Coordinates and/or schedules staff meetings.
Meets with the teams to discuss curriculum matters.
Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.
Personnel
Recruits, supervises, and evaluates Middle School Assistant building principal as well as certified and non-certified building staff.
Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of 5-8 classroom teaching staff.
Collaborates with Assistant Superintendent for Personnel in the interview and hiring of teachers.
Consults with the Superintendent of Schools regarding recommendations for tenure appointments.
Makes recommendations to the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for Personnel regarding tenure or dismissal of administrators and staff members.
Collaborates with the Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Assistant Superintendent for Instruction for determining the size of the instructional staff needed to carry out instructional programs.
Budget Management
Prepares the middle school budget and oversees expenditures.
Maintains a continuous record of budget accounts in conjunction with the Business Office.
Administration
Serves on District committees as requested.
Is responsible for implementing all contractual agreements between the Superintendent and staff units.
Ensures that all Board of Education policies, regulations and State mandates are fully implemented and adhered to.
Community Relations
Effectively communicates the District’s programs to the community.
Represents the District in community activities.

Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months, F-M Administrators Association (FM) affiliated position
