Statement of Need
Arlington Central School District, located in LaGrangeville, NY, is seeking a lead learner for LaGrange Middle School. The successful candidate will embrace innovation and have the talents and dispositions to lead in a Professional Learning Communities model. Deep knowledge of effective assessment and instructional practices and the ability to provide meaningful feedback to teachers is required. The successful candidate must be able to work effectively on teams and build the capacity of teams. In addition, experience with diverse learning populations and a commitment to equity for all students are critical and desired attributes that will be prioritized when identifying and selecting the successful candidate.
Job Description:
This twelve-month administrative position requires an individual who is committed to the effective implementation and supervision of Professional Learning Communities that are aligned to a middle school philosophy. It is expected that the successful candidate will be fluent in academic, social, and emotional concepts related to middle level education. This candidate will value balanced assessment data as a resource to promote student growth and instructional improvement. The successful candidate will also be committed to developing cultural competencies, equitable thinking, and future ready learning concepts. Excellent communication skills, the ability to establish and maintain rapport with all stakeholders, and a disposition toward teamwork are all prerequisites.
Performance Responsibilities:
Specific activities include, but are not limited to the following:
Instructional Leadership
- Initiate, design, and implement programs that meet the specific needs of all students
- Create a master schedule of courses and teaching assignments within established guidelines to meet student needs
- Assist in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum
- Supervise student support services to enhance individual student education and personal development
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of data analysis protocols and effectively use data to communicate the strengths and areas of improvement for the instructional program
Personnel
- Supervise all professional, paraprofessional, administrative and non-professional personnel involved with the school
- Provide quality professional learning for staff
- Orient newly assigned staff members and assist in their professional growth
- Evaluate and counsel staff members regarding their individual and group performance
- Apply high professional standards to the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning and evaluating the school’s professional staff
Administration
- Establish a school climate, which fosters high standards for student conduct and self-discipline
- Work with students, teachers, staff, parents and administrators to develop and implement the District’s Code of Conduct in accordance with due process of the rights of students
- Keep the superintendent and central office administration informed of the school’s events, activities and/or potential concerns
- Present to the Board of Education at the request of the Superintendent
- Work with various members of the central administrative staff on school concerns of more than in-school import, such as transportation, personnel, instruction and curriculum issues, special services, and the like
- Maintain responsibility for the overall supervision and administration of all student activity programs, including all extra-curricular programs of the school in accordance with the policies and guidelines of the Arlington Central School District
- Supervise the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes
- Interpret and enforce district policies and administrative regulations
- Conduct meetings of the staff as necessary for the proper functioning of the school
- Assume responsibility for the physical and emotional safety of the school including but not limited to the planning and supervision of all safety drills and an emergency preparedness program
- Attend and participate in-district meetings and committees
- Respond to written and oral requests for information in a timely manner
- Delegate authority to responsible personnel to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal
- Complete State and Federal reports
- Promote and develop the leadership capacities of administrators/teachers in the building
- Prepare and administer the school’s budget
- Maintain and control the various local funds generated by student activities
- Supervises the maintenance of all required building records and reports
Professional Learning
- Lead building level professional learning and short-cycle improvement processes
- Establish clear and measurable performance goals
- Implement all aspects of the Annual Professional Performance Review and supervise the evaluation process for all staff members
- Assume responsibility for his/her own professional growth and development through membership and participation in the affairs of professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and continuing educational activities
Community Relations
- Engage stake-holders, including students, parents, faculty and community members, in a shared commitment to the goals and priorities of the District
- Maintain active relationships with students and parents - seek to be a visible and accessible presence who portrays an effective role model for students and staff
- Attend school sponsored activities and functions
- Establish and maintain relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs
- Use proven data analysis protocol to communicate successes and challenges of the school community to stakeholders

Qualifications:
- New York State Certification as a School Building Leader (S.B.L.) or School Administration and Supervision (S.A.S.) or School District Administrator (S.D.A.)
- Experience as a building administrator preferred, doctorate preferred
