Waterloo Community School District in Waterloo, Iowa, is looking for a proven leader who is passionate about human resources, equity, education, and brings innovation and collaboration to the school setting. Duties for this position begin July 1, 2022.
The Waterloo Community School District includes the cities of Waterloo, Evansdale, Elk Run Heights, Gilbertville, and Raymond, part of the city of Cedar Falls, and certain unincorporated areas in Black Hawk County. The district is located entirely within Black Hawk County and encompasses approximately 150 square miles.
Waterloo is one of the 10 largest and diverse school districts of Iowa’s 377 public school systems. The enrollment is 10,878 students with a global majority student population. The district currently operates two comprehensive and one alternative high school, four middle schools and eleven elementary schools. The Waterloo Career Center provides career and technical education pathways for all Waterloo students and twelve neighboring school districts. Waterloo has 851 full-time equivalent (FTE) professional employees (including administrators and teachers) and 558 FTE support staff. Approximately 40% of the teaching staff have advanced degrees.
Waterloo offers a unique opportunity for the next Associate Superintendent of Human Resources and Equity. It is a district embedded within a community that is richly diverse in socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds reflective of the global landscape of the 21st century; it boasts a one-of-a-kind highly successful regional career center; and is working directly with the State of Iowa Department of Education to launch an innovative program that strategically advances the district's efforts to close the achievement gap. Waterloo Schools offers a vast array of state, national, and internationally recognized programs such as Leader in Me, Junior Achievement, and International Baccalaureate as well as mission-centric K-12 career-ready programs unique to Waterloo like LifeLab.
The new member of the executive team will bring a proven track record of diverse hiring practices and results and will also invest in communities of color to create partnerships and programs that will improve the equitable environment of Waterloo Schools students, families, and staff. Waterloo seeks a human resources and equity leader that will continue to grow and promote a positive staff culture through strengthening union relations and building a responsive system to regular and ongoing staff feedback. This position will also continue to promote the wellbeing of staff through the Districts health and wellness plan.
