About Miami-Dade County Public Schools
The School Board of Miami-Dade County is comprised of nine members elected by the people. They serve four-year terms and are elected from individual single member districts on a staggered basis. Members annually elect their chair and vice-chair. The School Board of Miami-Dade County sets district policy and appoints a Superintendent, who in turn selects administrators to head the system's administrative divisions and carry out the Board's policy. The Superintendent has general oversight over the district school system and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) is the fourth largest school district in the nation with approximately 334,000 students and over 41,000 employees. MDCPS has a highly diverse student population with over 160 countries represented by the languages spoken by our students. For over a decade, M-DCPS has been recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent public school systems. The mission of our school district is to provide relevant learning experiences that foster life-long curiosity and enable ALL students to achieve their full academic, personal, and civic potential;... its vision is to have “Inspired, valued, educated, and empowered students thriving in and beyond the classroom.” In seeking to fulfill its mission and vision, MDCPS has been an A-rated school district for two consecutive years and has a 93% graduation rate.
