The Cheyenne Mountain School District 12, Colorado Springs, Colorado Board of Education, is seeking a highly qualified and fully certified Superintendent. The Board wishes to have the successful candidate assume the responsibilities of the position July 1, 2021.
McPherson & Jacobson, L.L.C., Executive Recruitment and Development, in association with the Colorado Association of School Boards, has been engaged as the consultant in a search for outstanding candidates. They will assist the Board of Education in identifying and screening the candidates.
Location: 70 miles south of Denver
The candidate must have the background, skills, and abilities essential for excellence in educational leadership. The Board recognizes that selecting a superintendent is one of the most important decisions it will make. The Board developed the following desired characteristics.
Leadership – An experienced leader in education who has served at the helm of a high-performance school district. Someone who demonstrates an ability to build and lead a team of staff and administration, working to create consensus through active listening, but also provides clear vision for success. A confident, compassionate leader who is a result driven problem-solver. A leader who has a master’s degree (Doctorate preferred).
Communicator – A leader who speaks and writes at a professional level and uses this skill consistently to communicate with the board of directors and all stakeholders including staff, parents and community partners. A personable leader who enjoys being with people in the community who is accessible and accountable to all. A person who can guide divergent issues toward solutions with firmness and dignity. A person who will live in the district.
Educator – A curriculum leader who has taught in the classroom, served as a leader and mentor of teachers. A leader who has a demonstrated track record of excellence in education and understands how to use district resources to support the pedagogy of the learner. A leader who enjoys kids and enjoys the task of building a supportive and encouraging environment where all kids can thrive. A data driven leader who knows how to build an efficient/effective system of continuous improvement focused on the needs of every learner.
Accountable - A leader with business acumen who understands Colorado school finance and Colorado school law. A leader who empowers staff and holds them accountable. A competent fiscal agent who thrives on transparency.
