The Board of Education of Carbondale Community High School District 165 is seeking a Superintendent. It is anticipated that the new superintendent will be selected by March 1, 2021 and will be expected to assume the post on July 1, 2021.
The Superintendent selected will succeed Mr. Stephen Murphy who has served as Superintendent of Carbondale Community High School District 165 since 2011.

Carbondale Community High School District 165 opened a new high school for the 2003-2004 school year serving grades 9-12. In addition to the high school, the District also operates an alternative educational program (Rebound). The High School District serves students from the Carbondale, DeSoto, Giant City and Unity Point Elementary School Districts. District transportation services are currently contracted with Robinson Transport. District custodial services are contracted with Quality Clean Custodial Services. The District operates its cafeteria services.
The High School District encompasses 129.43 square miles. The District serves a diverse student body of approximately 1,000 students. The District employs 150 full and part-time staff, including 92 certified personnel and 58 support personnel.
Administrative Center staff consists of a Superintendent and a Chief School Business Official plus five support staff. All Central Office staff are located at the Administrative Center, 330 South Giant City Road, Carbondale, IL 62902.
District Administrators and Support Personnel:
In addition to the Superintendent and the Chief School Business Official, the District employs the following administrators and support personnel: Building Principal; Assistant Principals (2); Dean of Students; Director of Rebound; Special Education Director; Director of Athletics; Curriculum Director; Maintenance Director; Vocational Program Coordinator.
The high school provides a comprehensive educational program that provides vocational and college preparatory programs. Comprehensive co-curricular activities are offered in a broad range of programs in athletics, the arts and student clubs. The high school enjoys a well-established tradition of excellence and has the support of the community for its school, faculty and administration.
EAV of approximately $457 million. Total tax rate of 2.57. Total budget revenue of approximately $17.4 million with only $432,000 in bonds outstanding. The District has received a Financial Recognition designation from the ISBE for the past five years. The District receives over $700,000 in revenue annually from the County School Facility Tax.
