The Board of Education of the Sag Harbor Union Free School District, New York, has announced its search for a new Superintendent of Schools. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2020. Surrounded by the natural beauty of the eastern end of Long Island and imbued with a balance of tradition and innovation, Sag Harbor is a school community committed to public education at the core of its shared values.
The District’s Mission Statement reads,
The Sag Harbor School District in partnership with all members of the community is committed to equity in education; its mission is to provide students with a safe, child-centered environment which fosters personal, academic, and creative excellence. This will empower students to become responsible and respectful members of a global society. As lifelong learners, students will be prepared to move successfully to the next stage of their lives.
The District (www.sagharborschools.org) serves 950 students in three school divisions on two campuses: Sag Harbor Elementary (K-5), Pierson Middle School (6-8) and Pierson High School (9-12). Each level provides a comprehensive and enriched program for learners with a dedication to the whole child in academics, activities, the arts, and athletics. The commitment of the entire school staff and leadership team to maintaining personalized learning experiences and to extensive community inclusion is a hallmark of the talented and experienced staff. Sag Harbor schools are the beneficiaries of a culturally diverse, artistically enlightened, and service-oriented community.
In recently conducted focus groups and an online survey, Sag Harbor constituents described “a gem of a district” and highlighted the strengths of the school community, including the unique small-town culture, strong building-level leadership, a diversity of cultures and views, responsive and excellent teaching staff, highly desirable class size, involved and engaged staff, and the consistent recognition of children as individuals.
After analyzing the extensive data and providing additional input, the Board of Education determined its criteria for the position of Superintendent.
The successful candidate will be:
A proven instructional leader with successful classroom teaching and administrative experiences serving diverse and global learning communities similar to Sag Harbor
An excellent communicator with all district stakeholders, utilizing multiple media venues and equally well-skilled in listening, speaking, and writing
