Superintendent of Kalamazoo Public Schools

The Kalamazoo Public Schools Board of Education is in search of a Superintendent of Schools as the district's previous superintendent, Dr. Michael Rice, was selected to serve as Michigan's State Superintendent of Public Instruction. With student enrollment approaching 13,000, Kalamazoo Public Schools is a vibrant, growing district, having experienced an increase of 2,500 students in the last 14 years. KPS staff and students, with the support of parents and community organizations, continue to improve student achievement in a profound way. KPS is made up of 26 schools; 17 elementary (PreK-grade 5), five middle schools (grades 6-8) and two traditional high schools, Kalamazoo Central and Loy Norrix. Students may also choose Phoenix High School with a smaller learning environment or the Kalamazoo Innovative Learning Program (KILP). Since 2005, the Kalamazoo Promise has paid up to 100 percent of tuition and mandatory fees for every eligible KPS graduate at Michigan's public colleges or universities as well as the private schools affiliated with the Michigan Colleges Alliance. To date, more than 6,800 KPS graduates have been awarded nearly $125 million from a group of anonymous donors allowing KPS graduates to prepare for futures in professions and the trades. Additional Salary Information: The Board will offer a comprehensive, multi-year contract. Compensation will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate and requirements of the position.
