The Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District Board of Education seeks an exceptional leader as its next Superintendent of Schools.
The suburban school district, which lies about ten miles southeast of Syracuse, serves more than 4,200 students from the villages of Fayetteville and Manlius and surrounding areas. Since its establishment in 1951, the district has benefitted from consistent leadership with only six superintendents at the helm. This stability has contributed to the district’s state and nationally recognized achievements. The district is committed to building upon this academic excellence by focusing on authentic learning experiences, civic responsibility and innovative programs.
The Fayetteville-Manlius community is strongly committed to educational excellence. Residents take pride in their highly-regarded school system, actively supporting its students, teachers, and programs in academics, music, art, theater, athletics and a wide-range of extracurricular activities. The community has a wealth of local attractions catering to diverse interests. Outdoor enthusiasts can explore Green Lakes State Park, a popular destination for walkers, runners, hikers, golfers and swimmers. Recreation opportunities abound, from the Four Seasons Golf & Ski Center, the Erie Canal State Park, and the Manlius Cinema to youth sports leagues and cultural events. Residents can shop and dine at Fayetteville Towne Center, the Manlius historic district and at various local businesses.
The ideal candidate is:
A visible and approachable individual with the ability to lead, motivate and inspire;
An effective communicator who listens to and respects the ideas of others and can articulate the districts’ goals, successes and challenges;
An experienced leader who can demonstrate fiscal responsibility; and
An individual who respects the traditions of the district that have made it successful while leading it into the future with innovative programs and high-quality instructional practices.
The Board of Education expects the new superintendent to maintain a residency that allows them to attend to all the demands of the position, including being visible at school and community events and activities.
