Located in the village of Kenilworth on Chicago’s North Shore, District 38’s 500-student, 100-employee, JK-8 Joseph Sears School combines the feel and traditions of a small-town community. Its goal is to prepare students for success through their teenage years and beyond by allowing them to cultivate their passions, develop a genuine love of learning and establish a system of values that will guide them throughout their later stages of life.
Joseph Sears students consistently rank in the 98th to 99th percentile nationally on standardized tests. The Illinois State Board of Education recognized the District with the 2013 Excellence Award for academic performance on the Illinois Learning Standards and a 2015 study published in Chicago Agent Magazine named Kenilworth as the suburb with the top school district in all of Illinois. Graduates of the Joseph Sears School attend New Trier Township High School or one of several area private high schools.
The newly-created position Director of Student Services provide service leadership to the principal and faculty of the Joseph Sears School under the direction of Superintendent/CFO Dr. Crystal LeRoy.
TheDirector of Student Services supervises the operation of the special education department, response to intervention initiatives, Section 504 plans, health services, preschool screenings and services to English language learners and the homeless. The Director monitors and implements policies and procedures to ensure the district is operating in compliance with state and federal regulations. S/he is responsible for special education records, the special education budget and reports related to district special education programming. The Department includes student services teachers, speech language pathologists, social workers, a psychologist, a nurse and instructional assistants.

Applicants must have or be eligible for an Illinois Professional Educators License, with endorsements for either Principal or General Administration (formerly titled the Type 75 certificate.) and Director of Special Education. A minimum of three years’ experience as a special education staff member and two years of supervisory experience in student services and special education are required.
