The Tioga Central School District Board of Education is seeking a highly qualified educational leader to fill the position of superintendent of schools. Tioga CSD is a rural district of slightly less than 1,000 students located about 27 miles west of Binghamton, NY. The successful candidate may begin employment on or before January 2, 2018.
The superintendent serves as the chief professional officer for the district, providing leadership is all instructional, financial and operational areas.
Allen D. Buyck, district superintendent of Broome-Tioga BOCES, is serving as the search consultant for this effort. Interested applicants are instructed to NOT directly contact members of the board. The board, with input from a number of stakeholder groups, will make all decisions concerning the selection process, the evaluation of candidates and the final appointment.
First-round interviews are scheduled for November 2017. Second-round interviews with the board will be held in December. Finalists will be invited to spend the entire day and evening in the school district to tour facilities, meet the staff and be interviewed by the board and a focus group of individuals representing parents, teachers, administrators, central office and support staff, students and community members.

Candidates should include a copy of their school district administrator’s certificate. Letters of reference from the two most recent employers as well as other letters of reference should be included in the professional credentials portfolio.
The ideal candidate for this position will hold a masters degree or higher, hold district leadership credentials, have experience as an educational administrator and demonstrate a proven record of accomplishments encompassing educational leadership, financial stewardship and community engagement. Additionally, the successful candidate should:
Be active in community groups/service organizations
Exhibit good judgement, be patient in dealing with others and show evidence of stability and integrity under pressure
Be active and visible in both schools and the community
Be approachable and able to communicate with people from all walks of life with honesty, integrity, and sincerity
Have a vision for the role of extracurricular activities and support them in the district
Possess good management and problem-solving skills
Demonstrate a participative leadership style
Have the ability to engage and involve parents, community, staff and students in the educational improvement process
